NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) have officially formed a joint venture to develop 2 GW of renewable energy projects in Chhattisgarh. The newly incorporated entity โ Chhattisgarh NTPC Green Energy Limited โ was registered on December 5, 2025.
Under the partnership structure, NGEL will hold a majority stake of 74%, while CSPGCL will retain the remaining 26%. The venture will focus on establishing large-scale renewable energy assets, including solar, wind, hybrid power systems, and floating solar installations across the state.
The planned portfolio is expected to include Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Parks and Ultra-Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPPs), aimed at supporting both state grid requirements and national renewable energy targets. Early estimates suggest that the total investment for the 2 GW capacity could be in the range of โน10,000 crore.
The collaboration is also expected to support Chhattisgarh in meeting its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) commitments. The projects are anticipated to supply power to CSPGCL, state distribution companies, and other commercial or industrial consumers.
The joint venture marks a significant step in accelerating Chhattisgarhโs clean energy transition, as the state currently relies heavily on coal-based power generation. It also aligns with NGELโs broader expansion plan, which includes developing renewable, storage, and hybrid energy systems across India.
Further details on project timelines, land allocation, and commissioning schedules are expected to be announced in the coming months.
