Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has advanced its sustainability agenda by integrating the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework into its enterprise-wide strategy. The move positions AGEL among the leading global renewable energy companies adopting a nature-positive approach to development.

Announced on 8 December 2025, the initiative reinforces AGEL’s commitment to ensuring that ecological protection progresses in tandem with the company’s expanding clean energy footprint. The TNFD framework provides a science-driven structure for identifying, assessing, managing, and disclosing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities.

AGEL began company-wide assessments in FY24 to map nature-related factors across all operational sites. This preparatory work—initiated before the company formally joined the TNFD Adopters group—underscores AGEL’s intent to embed biodiversity considerations into strategic planning instead of limiting them to regulatory compliance.

“Nature is central to our growth story,” said Ashish Khanna, CEO, AGEL. “By mainstreaming TNFD principles into our operations, we aim to build resilient ecosystems alongside renewable energy infrastructure. Ensuring that renewable expansion contributes to protecting and restoring natural capital is essential for long-term business resilience and sustainable value creation.”

The TNFD is a global initiative led by the UNEP Finance Initiative, UNDP, WWF, and Global Canopy. Aligning with this framework enhances AGEL’s ESG performance and supports India’s broader climate and conservation priorities.

As part of its long-term ecological commitments, AGEL has pledged to achieve No Net Loss of Biodiversity by 2030. The company plans to plant 27.86 million trees across its project locations. AGEL is also a signatory to the India Business Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI and IBBI 2.0).

The company’s strengthened biodiversity agenda builds on its existing sustainability credentials, including certified water-positive operations, elimination of single-use plastics, and zero waste-to-landfill project sites.
