The Ministry of Energy announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reinforced its leadership presence within the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) as its newly appointed permanent representative formally submitted his credentials in Abu Dhabi.
According to the ministry, the Director-General of IRENA, Francesco La Camera, received the official accreditation documents of Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Shehri, who will serve as the Kingdomโs permanent representative to the agency.
The appointment underscores Saudi Arabiaโs expanding engagement with IRENA and its growing influence in global renewable energy initiatives.
Expanded Role in IRENA Activities
Saudi Arabia will now participate more actively in a wide range of IRENA programs and functions, including:
- Engagement in international initiatives and programs related to renewable energy.
- Attendance in official and technical meetings.
- Coordination with IRENAโs General Secretariat and relevant national entities.
- Strengthening collaboration on energy-related matters.
Supporting the Kingdomโs Renewable Energy Vision
The Ministry of Energy stated that stronger representation within IRENA helps highlight Saudi Arabiaโs achievements in renewable energy at both regional and international levels. It also supports the Kingdomโs strategic objective of enhancing its global role in the renewable energy landscape.
