The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is expanding its efforts to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in Uzbekistan by helping them access more green financing options. Through its Uzbekistan Green Economy Financing Facility II (GEFF II Uzbekistan), the Bank is introducing new funds that will encourage businesses to adopt environmentally friendly technologies and strengthen green innovation in the country.

Under this programme, the EBRD is providing a loan of up to US$30 million (equivalent to €25.7 million) to Hamkorbank. With this financing, Hamkorbank will be able to increase its lending for energy-efficiency projects for both companies and households across Uzbekistan. These funds will help businesses modernise their production processes, reduce energy consumption, and enhance their ability to cope with climate-related risks. The loan is also being supported by concessional co-financing from the Government of Canada, offered through the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA).

HIPCA brings together contributions from several international partners, including Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the TaiwanICDF (International Cooperation and Development Fund), the United Kingdom, and the United States. Their support plays an important role in accelerating climate-focused investments in developing countries. To date, the EBRD has invested more than US$6.6 billion in Uzbekistan through 196 projects. Most of these investments have been directed towards strengthening the private sector and supporting the country’s long-term economic development.
