The San Rafael Solar Park in Mendoza has recently begun operations, with 140 MW of its total 180 MW capacity now online, making it one of the most significant solar projects in Argentina. Genneia, the Argentine renewable energy company behind the project, successfully advanced the commissioning of this facility, enabling it to start supplying clean energy to private clients ahead of schedule. This achievement marks another step in consolidating Mendoza as a strategic hub for renewable energy generation in the country. The San Rafael Solar Park, a large-scale development in southern Mendoza, is located in the 25 de Mayo district and spans 500 hectares, where 400,000 solar panels have been installed.
These panels produce enough electricity to meet the annual consumption of approximately 135,000 homes, positioning the project as a benchmark in large-scale solar generation in Argentina. The park’s capacity is expected to increase by an additional 40 MW during the first quarter of 2026, once full commercial authorization is obtained. Genneia’s investment in the San Rafael Solar Park amounts to USD 180 million, while the company’s total investment in Mendoza exceeds USD 400 million. This project is Genneia’s third solar park in the province, bringing its total installed capacity in Mendoza to 410 MW under the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER).
The San Rafael Solar Park incorporates advanced technology designed to deliver competitive and reliable clean energy to the private sector. Operating under the MATER regulatory framework, the facility supplies industrial and commercial clients with sustainable energy solutions. During its construction, the project created employment for more than 300 people, boosting the local economy in southern Mendoza. The development also leveraged regional resources and strengthened technical expertise in renewable energy infrastructure.
Jimena Latorre, Minister of Energy and Environment of Mendoza, highlighted that the commissioning of the San Rafael Solar Park represents a key milestone for the province’s energy matrix and reinforces Mendoza’s reputation as a region committed to sustainable development and strategic investment.
Bernardo Andrews, CEO of Genneia, stated that the San Rafael Solar Park is a crucial step in the company’s growth strategy. He emphasized that the project demonstrates the feasibility of developing large-scale energy infrastructure that delivers both environmental benefits and positive economic impact, while supporting the growing demand for competitive energy from Argentine industries.
From an environmental perspective, the project contributes to reducing carbon emissions and enhances the competitiveness of Argentina’s national production system by replacing conventional energy sources with clean solar power.
