The Sustainability and Innovation Centre of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has strengthened its role as a regional leader in sustainability education, capacity building and innovation-led collaboration, offering a comprehensive platform that supports climate action and clean energy development in the UAE.
DEWA said the centre plays a strategic role in advancing the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to source 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean energy by mid-century. The centre adopts a multi-dimensional approach that engages students, professionals, entrepreneurs, policymakers and the wider public through integrated educational and innovation-focused programmes.
Unlike conventional awareness initiatives, the centre operates as a fully integrated service model, combining interactive exhibitions, immersive learning experiences, accredited professional training and strategic innovation platforms. It offers daily guided educational programmes for visitors of all ages and delivers internationally accredited technical training in partnership with global organisations.
As part of its innovation ecosystem, the centre has launched the CleanTech Alliance, designed to help local and international companies accelerate the energy transition and contribute to net-zero goals in the UAE and globally. The alliance provides a platform for members to showcase clean energy and sustainability solutions while connecting with investors and industry leaders.
The centre also runs a wide range of internationally accredited professional certification programmes focused on clean and renewable energy technologies, environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and sustainability systems. To date, more than 320 participants have completed training and received accredited certifications.
In 2025, the centre introduced new courses under its Professional Development Programme, including Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Solar Architecture, developed in collaboration with the International Energy Agency and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland. It also launched the Hydrogen Energy Professional programme in partnership with TÜV Rheinland Academy and introduced the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Certified Training Programme in collaboration with the World Green Economy Organization.
Additional training initiatives include multiple cycles of the Sustainability Manager Professional Certification Programme, the Integrated Solar Photovoltaic System Designer course and the internationally certified Greenhouse Gas Accountant training. In cooperation with the Gulf Renewable Energy Lab, the centre conducts intensive courses focused on global best practices for renewable energy project development and delivery.
To support youth engagement, the centre has graduated five batches of the CleanTech Youth Programme, with 117 young Emiratis completing the initiative. The programme combines theoretical learning with practical workshops, expert-led sessions and field visits to solar plants and major sustainable projects across the UAE.
The CleanTech Connect programme further promotes knowledge exchange among innovators, researchers and industry professionals. Since its launch, the programme has organised 50 symposiums and panel discussions, drawing more than 2,500 participants from across multiple sectors.
The centre has also expanded its outreach through events such as the CleanTech Innovators Exhibition, which showcased clean energy solutions from 30 entrepreneurs and industry professionals, and the CleanTech Hackathon, which attracted 193 participants from seven countries. In addition, the Young Inspirers Contest continues to engage school students in solar energy awareness, with more than 200 participants across five editions.
DEWA said the centre offers visitors a comprehensive experience through interactive exhibitions highlighting clean energy technologies, smart solutions and sustainable infrastructure. The facility features more than 35 interactive exhibits, along with the DEWA Museum, water desalination displays and immersive experiences showcasing solar power technologies, advanced energy systems and smart mobility solutions.
