BEEAH and Masdar have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to work together on utility-scale solar projects in Sharjah. The agreement was formalized at the World Future Energy Summit 2026, part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, by Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar. The collaboration aims to identify and develop clean energy projects to meet the rising power demand in the emirate while supporting Sharjah’s decarbonization efforts.
The JDA sets out a framework for the two companies to work together on all stages of solar projects, including screening, development, construction, operation, and maintenance. The partnership will cover project feasibility studies, grid impact assessments, solar resource evaluations, and site studies. There is also scope to explore hybrid clean energy solutions, such as battery energy storage systems, to strengthen grid resilience and manage variability in renewable power generation.
Khaled Al Huraimel highlighted the growing energy needs of Sharjah and the importance of building diversified and resilient renewable infrastructure. He noted that BEEAH has a history of delivering clean energy, including the commercial-scale Sharjah Waste to Energy facility. The new agreement with Masdar builds on this experience and aims to provide reliable and sustainable electricity to support the emirate’s growth.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi emphasized Masdar’s long-standing partnership with BEEAH, including their previous collaboration on the first commercial-scale waste-to-energy plant in the Middle East. He pointed out Sharjah’s strong potential for solar energy development and its commitment to high-quality, commercially viable projects that can accelerate the emirate’s energy transformation. Masdar aims to support Sharjah in achieving its environmental objectives and clean energy goals through this collaboration.
The JDA also builds on previous initiatives between BEEAH and Masdar, including the 2017 founding of the Emirates Waste to Energy Company joint venture, which developed the region’s first utility-scale waste-to-energy project. BEEAH continues to explore clean energy innovations beyond waste-to-energy, with its headquarters featuring an on-site solar plant contributing to its LEED Platinum certification. The company is also evaluating opportunities to convert old landfills into solar farms and generate power from captured landfill gas.
The agreement aligns with national clean energy priorities, as the UAE plans to triple its renewable energy capacity by 2030 under the Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. Through this collaboration, BEEAH and Masdar aim to responsibly meet Sharjah’s growing energy demand while promoting sustainability and supporting the UAE’s broader energy transition.
This partnership reflects a continued commitment by both organizations to develop large-scale renewable energy projects and accelerate the adoption of clean technologies in the region.
