The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has appointed Susanne Stormer as the Chair of the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), the independent governance body responsible for setting the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards.
Stormer will take up the position for a three-year term starting 1 April 2026. She is currently a Leader in Residence at Copenhagen Business School and brings extensive experience in corporate sustainability, assurance and global reporting frameworks. Most recently, she served as a Partner at PwC Denmark, providing sustainability advisory and assurance services. Prior to that, she spent 13 years as Vice President of Corporate Sustainability at Novo Nordisk.
Stormer has played a key role in the development of international sustainability reporting standards. She was a member of the EFRAG Project Task Force that developed the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), served on the SASB Standards Board, and was a founding member of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).
Commenting on the appointment, Jane Diplock, Chair of GRI’s Supervisory Board, said Stormer brings deep expertise and a long-standing commitment to corporate sustainability, noting that her experience as a practitioner, adviser and standard-setter makes her well suited to lead the GSSB as sustainability reporting systems continue to evolve globally.
In her remarks, Stormer said she looks forward to building on GRI’s leadership in sustainability reporting and strengthening the role of global standards. She emphasised the importance of clarity on materiality and the availability of consistent and comparable sustainability data to support transparency, accountability and informed decision-making.
The GSSB consists of 15 members, including the Chair, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis. Alongside Stormer’s appointment, GRI also announced the reappointment of four GSSB members for a second term: Jeff Robertson of Bimbo Canada (Grupo Bimbo), Deborah Ng of GMO LLC, Galya Tsonkova of Coca-Cola HBC AG, and Chulendra de Silva of InterBalance Consulting.
GRI said the appointments reinforce its commitment to strengthening global sustainability reporting and supporting greater accountability for organisational impacts on the economy, society and the environment.
