Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has approved the second phase of a major green data center project in the Warsan area, managed by Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA. The project represents a significant step in Dubai’s plan to develop high-tech infrastructure while prioritizing environmental sustainability. The decision comes at a time when demand for digital infrastructure is growing rapidly, driven by the rise of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other data-intensive services.
The Warsan facility is expected to cover an area of 66,000 square meters and provide a capacity exceeding 100 megawatts once fully operational. The data centre is designed to be powered primarily by solar energy, significantly reducing the carbon emissions that are normally associated with large-scale data processing. This focus on clean energy ensures that Dubai can continue to attract technology-driven businesses without compromising its long-term climate and sustainability goals.
The second phase approval follows a site inspection by DEWA’s leadership, emphasizing the strategic importance of the project. The first phase is expected to be operational in the latter half of 2026, and the approval of the second phase ensures that there will be a steady expansion of capacity to meet the growing demand. This facility is the fourth green data center developed by Moro Hub, building on the success of previous projects. One of their earlier facilities at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park holds a Guinness World Record as the largest solar-powered data center globally.
The expansion is also a response to the tight market conditions for data storage and processing in the UAE. Recent industry reports show that vacancy rates for data centers in the country are very low, and much of the ongoing construction is already pre-booked by major technology companies and government organizations. As international hyperscalers and AI developers seek space to establish their operations, Dubai is positioning itself as a leading hub that combines advanced technology with renewable energy solutions.
