UAE and Azerbaijan Strengthen Renewable Energy and Strategic Cooperation During High-Level Talks in Abu Dhabi

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today held high-level talks with His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation with a strong emphasis on renewable energy, sustainable development, and long-term economic partnerships.

The meeting, held at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi during President Aliyevโ€™s working visit, took place within the framework of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration across key sectors, particularly renewable energy, investment, economic development, and infrastructure, in line with both countriesโ€™ sustainability and energy transition goals.

Both leaders explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in clean energy deployment, low-carbon technologies, and sustainable infrastructure development, reinforcing their shared commitment to accelerating the global energy transition and supporting climate action. The dialogue also highlighted the role of strategic partnerships in unlocking cross-border investments and fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector.

In addition, the two sides reviewed the recent announcement of the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, which recognised the historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The leaders described the agreement as a landmark achievement in reconciliation and regional stability, underscoring the importance of diplomacy in promoting sustainable development and long-term prosperity.

President Sheikh Mohamed congratulated President Aliyev, noting that the award reflects the wisdom and leadership demonstrated by both countries in advancing peace, cooperation, and stability across the Caucasus region. President Aliyev, in turn, praised the UAEโ€™s diplomatic efforts and global initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and security.

The meeting was attended by senior UAE leadership, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court; His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser; His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and other ministers and senior officials.

During the visit, the two countries also announced a Letter of Intent on defence cooperation and signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a twinning relationship between the Department of Municipalities and Transport โ€“ Abu Dhabi and the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, further strengthening institutional collaboration.

President Aliyev was earlier welcomed at Abu Dhabi airport by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, senior UAE officials, and members of the Azerbaijani delegation, marking the start of his official engagements in the country.
