Cambodia’s Landmark 900MW LNG Power Project Advances, Strengthening National Grid Stability and Energy Security

At the start of the new year, H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, conducted an on-site inspection of the construction progress at Cambodia’s landmark 900 MW liquefied natural gas (LNG) power project in Botum Sakor District, Koh Kong Province, alongside H.E. Dr. Ty Norin.

The project, one of the largest new power investments in Cambodia, is progressing as per the Royal Government’s implementation schedule. Phase 1, with a capacity of 450 MW, is targeted for commissioning by the end of 2026, while Phase 2, also 450 MW, is expected to come online in 2027.

Once operational, the LNG power plant will significantly enhance Cambodia’s electricity supply, strengthen national energy security, and improve grid stability. The project is expected to play a critical role in supporting the country’s sustained economic growth and social development by ensuring a reliable and stable power supply.

The development also reflects strong international and domestic collaboration. Royal Group of Cambodia is leading the investment and project development, supported by advanced power generation technology through partnerships with Mitsubishi of Japan and Dongfang Electric of China. This three-nation collaboration underscores Cambodia’s commitment to building a resilient and diversified energy infrastructure to meet long-term demand.
