Chu Neng New Energy has signed a strategic cooperation agreement on energy storage with Saudi Arabia-based Al Rajhi Electrical and Shanghai GREENGRID, marking a major step toward accelerating energy storage deployment and localization across the Middle East.
The agreement was formally signed in Dammam, in the presence of senior representatives from all three companies, including Liu Runchang, head of Chu Nengโs overseas business division, Nader AlDhakeel, CEO of Al Rajhi Electrical, and Wu Yang, founder of Shanghai GREENGRID.
The collaboration aims to support Saudi Arabiaโs Vision 2030 energy transition strategy and jointly explore the rapidly growing Middle East energy storage market. Under the agreement, Chu Neng will act as Al Rajhi Electricalโs first Chinese strategic partner in the energy storage sector, leveraging its strengths in lithium battery research and development, large-scale manufacturing, and system integration.
Over the next three years, Chu Neng will supply 5.5 GWh of energy storage products to Al Rajhi Electrical to support localized manufacturing and project development across the Middle East. In addition, Chu Neng will provide comprehensive technical support for the construction of Al Rajhi Electricalโs local factory in Saudi Arabia, accelerating the localization of energy storage systems and strengthening regional supply chains.
Shanghai GREENGRID will serve as a key strategic partner and platform support provider, deeply participating across the entire energy storage project lifecycle, including supply chain coordination, cross-border collaboration, and localization support, ensuring systematic execution of Middle East energy storage initiatives.
Al Rajhi Electrical, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the diversified Saudi conglomerate Al Rajhi Group, benefits from strong capital backing and strategic synergies as a major shareholder of ACWA Power. Since 2012, the company has established a leading position in power and automation solutions across industrial, commercial, and residential segments, supported by strong financial resources and robust local operational capabilities.
Shanghai-based GREENGRID specializes in smart grid and renewable energy sectors, offering digital supply chain management and cross-border collaboration solutions. The company has accumulated extensive project experience across Belt and Road markets, including Saudi Arabia and Brazil, enabling manufacturing enterprises to accelerate overseas expansion and localization.
With a fully integrated industrial chain covering R&D, manufacturing, sales, and services, Chu Neng has established a global service network delivering customized, full-lifecycle energy storage solutions. The companyโs products are currently deployed in more than 60 countries and regions worldwide.
The partnership represents a strategic milestone in Chu Nengโs Middle East expansion, reinforcing its overseas growth strategy and strengthening its position in global energy storage markets. The company said it will continue to leverage the Middle East as a strategic hub to collaborate with international partners, foster a green energy ecosystem, and contribute to global energy transition and carbon neutrality goals.
