Maxeon Solar Technologies, Ltd., and Shanghai Aiko Solar Energy Co., Ltd. have announced that they have reached a formal agreement on patent licensing related to back contact (BC) solar technology. Under this agreement, Aiko will receive a license to use Maxeonโ€™s BC solar cell and module patents outside the United States. The license covers both existing patents and any new BC-related patents that Maxeon adds over the next five years.

As part of the agreement, Maxeon has agreed to fully withdraw and end all current and potential patent enforcement actions against Aiko. In return, Aiko has agreed to withdraw and terminate all efforts to challenge or invalidate Maxeonโ€™s patents. This mutual withdrawal brings an end to patent-related disputes between the two companies concerning BC technology.

Both companies said the agreement reflects their respect for intellectual property and its role in driving innovation. By resolving patent differences through licensing rather than legal action, the companies aim to create a more stable and cooperative environment for technology development.
