SJVN has achieved the commercial operation date of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam, marking an important step in the companyโ€™s renewable energy expansion. The information was shared by Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN. The project has been developed through SJVNโ€™s wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited, and adds another operational renewable asset to the companyโ€™s portfolio.

The solar project is located at Village Khudigaon Pt. II in Dhubri district of Assam and has been developed on around 330 acres of lease-based land. The total project cost stands at โ‚น367.44 crores. With the start of commercial operations, the plant is expected to generate about 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year. Over its full operating life of 25 years, the project is projected to produce nearly 3,230 million units of clean power.

The maximum usage charges for the electricity generated from the project have been fixed at โ‚น3.92 per unit, helping ensure the supply of affordable and clean energy. The power generated will be supplied to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, contributing to meeting the stateโ€™s growing electricity demand through renewable sources.

The foundation stone of the Dhubri Solar Power Project was laid by the Honโ€™ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi, on March 4, 2024, from Adilabad in Telangana. This project holds special importance as it is the first large-scale solar power project in the state of Assam and also SJVNโ€™s first operational project in the North Eastern Region.

The commissioning of the project supports the Government of Indiaโ€™s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 1,58,270 tonnes, supporting Indiaโ€™s climate commitments. In addition, the project has created several direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing to green job creation and providing a boost to the local economy in the region.
