Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has invited bids for a new clean energy infrastructure project in Odisha, marking another important step toward strengthening Indiaโ€™s power grid with energy storage solutions. As per the tender issued by the central transmission utility, the project involves setting up a 20 MW / 80 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Basta in Odisha. The tender has been released under reference number CC/T/W-MISC/DOM/A01/26/01989 and the project has been titled Odisha-BESS-04.

This BESS project is part of a larger plan by Power Grid to develop six standalone battery storage projects across Odisha with a combined storage capacity of 500 MWh. The initiative aims to improve grid reliability and support the growing integration of renewable energy, especially solar and wind power, which are intermittent in nature. The storage system planned for Basta will have a four-hour discharge cycle, allowing it to store excess power and release it during peak demand or grid stress conditions.

The project is backed by Viability Gap Funding through the Power System Development Fund, highlighting strong government support for battery storage deployment. The contract falls under the โ€œWorksโ€ category and includes the complete installation of the battery energy storage system. While the tender value has not been disclosed in the notice and is listed as zero, the tender fee has been fixed at โ‚น25,000.

According to the initial tender summary, the Earnest Money Deposit has been mentioned as zero. However, bidders are required to submit a Bid Security Declaration or relevant bank guarantees as specified in the detailed pre-qualification documents available on the PRANIT portal. The performance bank guarantee will be applicable after the award of the contract and is expected to be calculated as a percentage of the final contract value, as per standard utility norms.

The bidding schedule is tight, requiring interested companies to act quickly. The sale of tender documents and bid submission process began on February 9, 2026. The last date for document sale is February 16, 2026, up to 11:55 PM. The deadline for submitting bids in soft copy format is February 18, 2026, by 11:00 AM, with bid opening scheduled for the same day at 11:30 AM.
