UJVN Limited has invited bids for a new battery energy storage project aimed at improving power system reliability in Uttarakhand. The state-owned utility has issued a Notice Inviting e-Tender for the development of a 16 MW/40 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System near the Pathri Hydroelectric Project in Haridwar district. The project is being taken up under the Viability Gap Funding scheme, with financial support from the Power System Development Fund.
The proposed battery storage system will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer basis. The selection of the project developer will be done through an online tariff-based competitive bidding process under a Request for Proposal route. This approach is expected to ensure transparency and attract competitive tariffs for the project.
Once commissioned, the battery energy storage system is expected to play an important role in managing peak electricity demand and improving grid stability in the region. By storing energy during periods of low demand and supplying power during peak hours, the system will help reduce stress on the grid and support better utilization of available generation resources. It will also support the integration of renewable energy and improve overall power quality.
The project site has been identified near the Pathri HEP, which allows for easier grid connectivity and smoother project execution. UJVN has highlighted that the initiative is part of its broader efforts to modernize power infrastructure and promote the efficient use of electricity. The project also supports the utility’s public message encouraging consumers to avoid the wasteful use of power.
As per the tender details, bid documents will be available to interested parties from February 6, 2026, starting at 5:00 pm, through the official e-procurement portal. The deadline for submission of bids has been set for March 5, 2026, at 4:00 pm. The tender has been issued under the bid identification number T-07/EE(Solar)/2025-26.
While the tender notice provides an overview of the project scope and bidding process, UJVN has advised bidders to visit the official websites for detailed information. This includes specifics related to financial requirements such as the Earnest Money Deposit and Performance Bank Guarantee, along with any future amendments, addenda, or corrigenda.
With this tender, UJVN Limited continues to expand its focus on advanced energy storage solutions, supporting a more reliable, efficient, and future-ready power system for Uttarakhand.
