The UK government has released the results of Allocation Round 7 (AR7) for ‘Pot 1’ established renewable technologies, covering onshore wind and solar PV. In this competitive auction, RWE achieved notable success with five solar projects totaling 215 MW and three onshore wind projects amounting to 76 MW securing Contracts for Difference.

The awarded solar projects received CfDs at a strike price of £65.23 per megawatt-hour, while the onshore wind projects were awarded at a strike price of £72.24/MWh. These strike prices are provided in 2024 terms and will be indexed for inflation throughout the 20-year duration of the contracts, ensuring stable long-term revenue for RWE as it advances its renewable development plan in the UK.

RWE continues to strengthen its position as one of the country’s leading renewable energy operators. The company currently runs over 30 onshore wind farms in the UK with a combined capacity of 730 MW. Since commissioning its first solar PV site, the Langford project in Devon, in June of last year, RWE has expanded to four operational solar sites with a total installed capacity of 185 MW.

Construction is also progressing rapidly across its portfolio, with nine additional solar PV projects under development representing around 440 MW of capacity. Alongside this, four more onshore wind projects, with a total capacity of approximately 230 MW, are currently being built, further reinforcing RWE’s commitment to increasing clean energy generation across the country.

Commenting on the AR7 results, Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, emphasized the importance of this achievement, noting that securing long-term offtake contracts for eight solar and onshore wind projects marks a key milestone for the company. She highlighted that the outcome reflects both the strength of RWE’s UK renewable pipeline and the strategic significance of the UK market to the company’s broader growth ambitions. The successful bids position RWE to continue delivering its substantial solar and onshore wind development program while supporting the UK’s transition to affordable, secure, and sustainable energy.
