SunPower Inc., a solar technology, services, and installation company, has announced the promotion of Kapil Rai to Executive Vice President of its New Homes division, which now also oversees the Multifamily and Light Commercial (C&I) segments. In his new role, Kapil will focus on strengthening relationships with builders, installation partners, financing providers, OEM suppliers, and customers across the United States as SunPower works to expand its presence in the residential and small commercial markets.

Kapil brings more than two decades of global P&L leadership from the semiconductor sector, having held key roles at Future Electronics, Maxim Integrated, Cypress Semiconductor, and Microchip Technology. His background includes leading major organizational turnarounds, driving operational improvements, and building strong customer-focused cultures.

SunPower CEO T.J. Rodgers said the New Homes division is now recovering after losing customers in the aftermath of SunPowerโ€™s 2024 bankruptcy. He noted that the company expects the division to double in size in 2026, supported by a project pipeline projected to exceed $100 million by the end of the year. Rodgers highlighted Kapilโ€™s leadership in completing the recent acquisition of Cobalt Power, Silicon Valleyโ€™s top solar company, calling it a major driver of the divisionโ€™s current momentum.

Since joining SunPower in late 2025, Kapil has rebuilt the divisionโ€™s structure, restored key relationships, strengthened operational processes, and reintroduced strict quality standards. Rodgers added that Kapil achieved similar performance gains at Cypress Semiconductor, where he increased the Microcontroller Divisionโ€™s Net Promoter Score by more than 40 points.

Kapil Rai said he is honored to lead the transformation of the New Homes division. He emphasized that SunPower is evolving into a culture defined by transparency, accountability, and a commitment to zero defectsโ€”principles he believes are essential to delivering long-term value for customers and shareholders alike.
