European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen will travel to Algiers on Friday to reinforce the European Union’s long-standing energy partnership with Algeria, amid ongoing efforts to diversify gas supplies and accelerate the clean energy transition.
The visit comes as the EU continues to reduce its dependence on Russian gas under the REPowerEU strategy, while expanding cooperation with reliable partners. Algeria remains a key supplier of natural gas to Europe and an important stakeholder in regional energy security.
During the visit, Commissioner Jørgensen will participate in the annual EU–Algeria High-Level Energy Dialogue, where discussions are expected to focus on natural gas cooperation, renewable energy development, hydrogen initiatives and electricity interconnections.
The Commissioner is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Algeria’s Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, to explore avenues for deepening collaboration across conventional and clean energy sectors.
The visit underscores the EU’s dual objective of strengthening supply diversification while advancing global energy transition goals through strategic partnerships.
