Adani Power Ltd has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, Adani Atomic Energy Ltd (AAEL), marking the group’s formal entry into the nuclear power segment. The move aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to diversify its generation portfolio beyond thermal and renewable energy.

According to regulatory filings, Adani Atomic Energy has been established to explore opportunities in nuclear power generation and related activities. Adani Power will hold 100% equity in the newly formed entity. While the company has not announced specific project locations or capacity targets, the development comes amid growing policy discussions around greater private sector participation in India’s nuclear energy sector.

India has set an ambitious target to expand its nuclear capacity as part of its broader clean energy transition and decarbonization roadmap. Nuclear power is increasingly being viewed as a stable, low-carbon baseload energy source capable of complementing intermittent renewables such as solar and wind.

The formation of AAEL indicates Adani Group’s intent to position itself early in anticipation of potential regulatory reforms that may enable private investment and joint ventures in nuclear generation. Currently, nuclear power generation in India is largely under the purview of state-owned Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).

Adani Power, one of India’s largest private thermal power producers, has been actively expanding across conventional and clean energy segments. The incorporation of a dedicated nuclear subsidiary signals a strategic step toward diversifying into long-term, capital-intensive low-carbon infrastructure, subject to regulatory approvals and government policy evolution.
