Clearway Energy Group and Clearway Energy, Inc. have announced that the Pine Forest Energy Center in Hopkins County, Texas, is now operational. The project comprises 300 megawatts (MW) of solar generation paired with a 200 MW battery storage facility, representing a $685 million investment in reliable, low-cost clean energy. Together, the solar and storage facilities generate enough electricity to power more than 100,000 homes, while storing surplus energy to provide dispatchable power when it is needed most.
John Woody, Chief Development Officer at Clearway, stated that the Pine Forest Energy Center demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing Texans with reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy. He emphasized that the facility, which includes Clearway’s first battery storage system in the state, will help maintain grid stability, ensure electricity reliability, and support local communities. Woody also highlighted the importance of collaboration with customers and partners in bringing the project to fruition.
Construction of the Pine Forest Energy Center created approximately 480 jobs and was led by Blattner Energy. Over the next 20 years, the project is expected to generate more than $58 million in property tax revenue, supporting local schools, emergency services, and community infrastructure. The facility is built on privately leased land, providing long-term financial stability for landowners and helping to preserve family-held land for future generations.
Lydia Walden, Superintendent of the Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District, highlighted the project’s impact on education, noting that the Pine Forest Energy Center will provide new opportunities for local students. She expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Clearway to create learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom, while benefiting from increased property tax revenues.
During development and construction, Clearway and Blattner Energy actively engaged with the local community. Contributions included support for teacher appreciation events, upgrades and appliances for the Pine Forest Community Center, and participation in holiday initiatives providing gifts to more than 130 children. The companies also donated $3,500 and hundreds of pounds of food to the Pine Forest Food Bank, reflecting a strong commitment to community welfare.
As the Pine Forest Energy Center begins long-term operations, Clearway plans to continue supporting the community through programs such as Adopt-a-School, contributions to the local emergency medical services department, and participation in county events. By combining large-scale clean energy production with community investment, the project exemplifies Clearway’s approach to delivering both economic and social benefits alongside renewable energy infrastructure.
