NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced an invitation for bids to develop a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Khavda Solar Park. The project will be executed on a turnkey basis, with the selected contractor responsible for the full cycle, including design, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning. The system will be grid-connected with a capacity of 16.7 MW/100 MWh and will include a 10-year operation and maintenance period. It is designed for a service life of 25 years and will integrate with the existing 33 kV pooling substation of the solar plant.

Interested bidders must submit their proposals through a single-stage, two-envelope process. Participation requires registration on the ISN Electronic Tender Services portal and submission of a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement to access the official bidding documents. The financial and security requirements are clearly outlined. Bidders must provide a bid security of INR 2 crore. In addition, qualified manufacturers of Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries must submit an on-demand bank guarantee equal to 1% of the total contract price if participating through specific partnership arrangements.

The financial eligibility criteria are also strict. Bidders must have an average annual turnover of at least INR 229.5 crore over the past three financial years, and their net worth should not be less than 100% of their paid-up share capital.

Key dates for the bidding process have been defined. The period for downloading bidding documents is from February 16, 2026, to February 26, 2026, until 5:00 PM IST. A pre-bid conference and the last date for submitting queries are set for February 27, 2026. The deadline for receipt of bids is March 10, 2026, at 3:00 PM IST, and the techno-commercial bid opening will follow on the same day at 3:30 PM IST.

Technical eligibility offers multiple routes for qualification. A bidder can qualify if they have successfully commissioned Vanadium Redox Flow Battery systems with a cumulative capacity of 2.4 MWh in the past ten years. Alternatively, developers of large-scale solar or wind projects of 40 MWAC or more, or developers of significant industrial projects in sectors such as power, oil, or gas, may qualify if they partner with a qualified VRFB manufacturer.
