AM Group, the energy transition platform backed by the founders of Greenko Group, has commenced development of its 1 GW artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) data centre project in Uttar Pradesh.
The development follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AM Group and Invest UP, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in Davos, Switzerland on 20 January 2026. The project marks one of the largest AI infrastructure investments in India to date.
AM AI Labs, an affiliate of AM Group, has received a letter of intent from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) for the allocation of land parcels to establish the first two phases of the project. These phases will comprise 150 MW and 200 MW of compute capacity, forming part of the cumulative 1 GW AI and HPC data centre hub planned in the state.
According to the company, 350 MW of compute capacity is expected to be operational by 2028, with the full 1 GW targeted for completion by 2030. The project represents an estimated investment of $25 billion and will deploy approximately 500,000 high-performance chips.
AM Group stated that the platform will be fully vertically integrated, spanning carbon-free power generation, data centre infrastructure, high-performance chips, software stack development and AI-driven applications. The company aims to deliver flexible consumption models ranging from AI Pods-as-a-Service to Tokens-as-a-Service.
The project will be powered by firm, on-demand carbon-free energy sourced from renewables and strategic pumped storage assets, managed through an in-house intelligent cloud energy architecture. The company said its integrated design approachโfrom energy generation and data centre engineering to liquid cooling systems, accelerator selection and softwareโwill optimise cost efficiency across the value chain.
India is currently the worldโs second-largest market for AI token consumption, and AM AI Labs plans to serve both domestic and global markets for AI model training, inference and advanced applications using domestically generated AI tokens.
The initiative aligns with the Government of Indiaโs Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and is expected to attract significant foreign direct investment while creating thousands of high-skilled jobs. It is also expected to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading AI infrastructure destination in the country.
AMG AI Labs has developed a full-stack AI platform covering the entire AI lifecycle, including provisioning, orchestration, virtualisation, inference and training frameworks, security, networking, compliance and storage. The architecture is accelerator-agnostic, supporting GPUs and other advanced chips. The leadership team brings more than 300 years of combined experience across companies such as Apple, AMD, NVIDIA, Cisco and Intel.
Commenting on the development, Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Group, described the project as an ambitious initiative aimed at delivering the lowest-cost and most efficient AI tokens globally, powered by clean energy owned and operated by the group. He said the companyโs integrated model enables optimisation across the full value chain, from power generation to silicon and token delivery, adding that the project will support Indiaโs ambition to build world-class AI infrastructure.
