The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under the Ministry of Power, marked the sixth edition of Lineman Diwas in New Delhi on March 7, 2026, recognising the dedication and service of frontline power sector workers responsible for maintaining reliable electricity supply across the country. The programme began with a safety pledge, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to following strict safety protocols to protect themselves and ensure reliable service delivery.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik highlighted that Lineman Diwas, observed during National Safety Week, honours the dedication of frontline power sector workers who ensure uninterrupted electricity supply even under difficult conditions. He emphasised the importance of strengthening workplace safety through consistent use of personal protective equipment, proper shutdown verification before maintenance work, and continuous training.

He also stressed the role of modern technologies such as smart grids, real-time monitoring systems, AI-enabled predictive maintenance, and drone-based inspections in identifying faults early and reducing risks to field personnel. Referring to this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œSeva, Suraksha, Swabhiman,โ€ he said it reflects the spirit of service, safety, and dignity of the power sectorโ€™s frontline workforce.

Shri Pankaj Agarwal described linemen as the โ€œwarriors of the power sector,โ€ noting that they work in challenging conditions, including extreme weather and natural disasters, to restore electricity supply. He emphasised that despite increasing automation, the role of field personnel remains critical in maintaining and restoring power networks. He also urged utilities to ensure that all field workers are equipped with standardised safety kits and tools.
