Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC), a partnership between the Yindjibarndi People and multinational renewable-energy developer ACEN Corporation, has launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) process for commercial and industrial consumers seeking long-term renewable-energy offtake opportunities. This EOI covers clean-energy supply from YECโs growing portfolio of large-scale renewable projects being developed across Yindjibarndi Ngurra and the broader Pilbara region. The initiation of this EOI process marks a significant step forward for YEC as it advances its development pipeline and supports Western Australiaโs shift toward low-carbon energy. It also reflects the increasing interest from major industrial players seeking reliable, competitively priced renewable power in one of Australiaโs most energy-intensive regions.
YECโs flagship initiative, Project Baru Marnda, has already been recognised at both state and national levels. The Western Australian Government has granted it Strategic Project status, while the Australian Government has included it on the National Renewable Energy Priority List. These endorsements highlight the projectโs importance in enabling large-scale renewable generation, supporting industrial decarbonisation and contributing to sustainable regional growth. The EOI also progresses planning for the proposed Chichester Range Transmission Corridor (CRTC), a high-voltage, common-user transmission network intended to unlock new renewable-energy capacity in the western Pilbara.
The CRTC will provide future grid-connection options to the North West Interconnected System, strengthening the regionโs access to clean, firmed power. It has been granted Project Priority status under the State Governmentโs Pilbara Energy Transmission Plan and is also listed on the National Renewable Energy Priority List, underscoring its strategic importance in Australiaโs broader energy transition. Together, these developments form the backbone of YECโs large-scale renewable-energy hub across Yindjibarndi Ngurra. The hub will combine coastal wind resources, Pilbara solar and battery-storage systems to deliver round-the-clock renewable power. This integrated model supports the EOIโs purpose: enabling industrial decarbonisation, strengthening transmission access and enhancing long-term regional energy security.
Craig Ricato, CEO of YEC, stated that the launch of the EOI responds to strong and rising demand for clean and dependable energy solutions in the Pilbara. He noted that the process provides an opportunity for regional operators to partner with a Traditional Owner-led energy developer capable of delivering high-quality renewable power at scale. Ricato emphasised YECโs vision of supplying cost-competitive, low-emissions electricity that accelerates decarbonisation while creating lasting social and economic benefits for the Yindjibarndi People and the broader region.
The EOI is open to major energy-intensive sectors, including mining, minerals processing, heavy industry, hydrogen production, infrastructure operations and other users requiring firmed renewable power or future transmission access. YEC continues to prioritise Traditional Owner leadership, culturally respectful development practices and collaborative engagement with industry and government partners. Its work aims to support responsible renewable-energy growth across the Pilbara while ensuring long-term community, cultural and environmental integrity.
