Enfinity Global has entered into a strategic partnership with Mitsubishi HC Capital Energy Inc. to support the development of battery energy storage projects in Japan. The agreement has been signed through Enfinity Japan K.K., which is the local arm of Enfinity Global. The collaboration will focus on developing, investing in, and operating grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the country.
This partnership comes at a time when Japan is witnessing rapid growth in renewable energy. With increasing solar and wind capacity, there is a growing need for energy storage solutions to maintain grid stability. BESS projects play an important role in balancing electricity supply and demand, ensuring a steady and reliable power supply, and enabling the use of renewable energy around the clock.
Under the agreement, Enfinity will bring its global experience in energy storage development. The company has a strong track record and a global pipeline of 17 GW of BESS projects. On the other hand, Mitsubishi HC Capital Energy will contribute with its strong financial capabilities and experience in renewable energy operations in Japan and international markets. The combination of technical expertise and financial strength is expected to improve project efficiency and support large-scale deployment of storage systems.
The two companies also plan to explore opportunities in the aggregator business in Japan. This will involve using Enfinity’s proprietary systems to manage and optimize energy storage and distribution. Such systems are important for improving grid flexibility and supporting the integration of renewable energy into the power network.
As part of the first step in this partnership, Mitsubishi HC Capital Energy has acquired a minority stake in a BESS project located in Kyushu. This project has a capacity of 7.5 MWh and is already operational. It will serve as a base for both companies to gain further technical experience and strengthen their position in Japan’s energy storage sector.
The partnership also aligns with Japan’s long-term energy goals, including achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. With rising electricity demand, especially from sectors like data centers, energy storage is becoming more important. The collaboration aims to address these challenges by improving grid resilience, ensuring energy security, and supporting the transition to clean energy.
