The Government of India is actively promoting renewable energy (RE) adoption through nationwide awareness programmes, leveraging digital platforms, mass media, and institutional collaborations, according to a statement made in the Rajya Sabha.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) conducts awareness campaigns via websites, social media, mobile applications, and advertisements across print, television, radio, and outdoor media. These initiatives are implemented through agencies such as the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), Doordarshan, All India Radio (AIR), State Nodal Agencies (SNAs), and academic institutions.
To strengthen outreach at the grassroots level, the government has provided funding support to State Nodal Agencies and DISCOMs to carry out Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities, including in rural and remote areas. During FY 2025โ26, funds have been allocated to 27 states and Union Territories. Promotional efforts include hoardings, print advertisements, radio campaigns, melas, and mobile awareness initiatives such as Surya Rath, aimed at increasing public engagement with MNRE schemes.
In addition, the ministry regularly conducts review meetings, capacity-building workshops, and public awareness programmes across the country to enhance implementation and adoption of renewable energy initiatives.
The government is also collaborating with leading educational and skill development institutions to promote renewable energy awareness and workforce development. These include institutions such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, National Skill Development Institutes (NSTIs), Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), and the Skill Council of Green Jobs (SCGJ).
Key initiatives include the Jal Urjamitra programme by IIT Roorkee, skill development programmes for the green hydrogen sector through NSTIs and ITIs, and specialised academic programmes such as an M.Tech in Renewable Energy at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, and a joint M.Tech programme in Green Energy and Sustainable Development in collaboration with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
This information was shared by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
