Zelestra, a global, multi-technology renewable energy company, has brought three new solar plants online in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The Belinchón I, II, and III projects, located in Cuenca, have a combined installed capacity of 162 MW. Delivered by Zelestra’s in-house engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) team in under 14 months, the projects created approximately 400 jobs during construction.

Now operational, the solar plants are expected to avoid more than 42,700 tons of CO2 emissions each year. Across the three sites, a total of 275,000 solar modules were installed on single-axis tracker systems to maximize electricity production.

Castilla-La Mancha is a key region for Zelestra in Spain, with 470 MW of contracted projects across nine sites and a broader development pipeline exceeding 360 MW in solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The Belinchón projects are supported by a long-term, multi-buyer power purchase agreement (PPA) through the Energize program, a supply chain decarbonization initiative managed by Schneider Electric.

The Energize program brings together leading pharmaceutical companies, including Takeda Pharmaceuticals International AG, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, and UCB, along with suppliers such as Avantor, Organon LLC, Perrigo, and West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. The collaboration is designed to reduce scope 2 and scope 3 emissions across the pharmaceutical value chain.

Luis Alvargonzalez, Zelestra’s Country Manager in Spain, said, “The Belinchón cluster is a significant new addition to our global portfolio of operational projects and a major contribution to Spain’s clean energy transition. It is a strong example of how we deliver projects quickly and efficiently, while supporting industrial decarbonization. I am proud of the positive impact Belinchón will have for the pharmaceutical sector across Spain and Europe.”

In Spain, Zelestra now has 1.1 GW of multi-technology clean energy projects contracted with customers, alongside a development pipeline exceeding 7 GW. Globally, its EPC division has delivered approximately 3.5 GW of projects, supported by a team of more than 300 specialists.
