The 240 MW Mooi Plaats Solar Facility, located in the Northern Cape, has commenced commercial operations, marking a significant addition to South Africaโ€™s renewable energy capacity. The project is now delivering clean and reliable power to the national grid.

The solar facility is expected to support the operations of major industrial players, including Valterra Platinum, De Beers, and Kumba Iron Ore, contributing to their Scope 2 emissions reduction targets while enhancing energy resilience across the mining and industrial sectors.

Beyond energy generation, the project has delivered notable socio-economic benefits. More than 1,600 jobs were created during its development phase, while approximately R20 million has been invested in socio-economic initiatives for the Inxuba Yethemba Middleburg community. The project also incorporates community ownership through the Winds of Change Community Trust, reinforcing inclusive participation in the energy transition.

Mooi Plaats is the first project within the Envusa portfolio to reach commercial operations, with two additional 140 MW solar projects scheduled for completion in 2026. The development underscores the role of renewable energy projects in advancing energy security, decarbonisation, and long-term community impact.
