Oman PWP Plans Musandam Renewable Energy Study
Oman’s Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) has issued an RFP for a techno-economic feasibility study to assess renewable energy opportunities in the Musandam Governorate. The study will evaluate solar PV, wind power, hybrid renewable systems, BESS and other suitable technologies to determine their technical feasibility and economic viability. The initiative is intended to identify practical clean energy options that can support Musandam’s future electricity requirements while strengthening long-term energy security. Proposals are due by September 24, 2026, with the tender issued under reference OPWP/2026/035.
Kuwait Fund Backs 11 MW Solar Project with USD 9.6 Million
The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has signed a USD 9.6 million loan agreement with El Salvador to finance the approximately 11 MWp San Matías Solar PV Plant. The project, located northwest of San Salvador, is expected to generate around 20–25 GWh of electricity annually. With an estimated total cost of USD 13.95 million, the Kuwait Fund loan will cover about 69% of project costs. The facility is targeted for completion in the first half of 2028, strengthening Kuwait’s international clean energy development cooperation.
L&T Secures Major 6 GWh Middle East BESS Order
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a major order to develop 6 GWh of battery energy storage system projects in the Middle East, highlighting the accelerating scale of energy storage deployment across the region. The order further strengthens L&T’s position in large-scale energy infrastructure as Middle Eastern markets increasingly invest in battery storage to complement rapidly expanding renewable generation. Utility-scale BESS is becoming a critical component of regional power systems, providing the flexibility required to integrate more solar and wind generation while supporting grid stability, energy management and reliable electricity supply.
ACWA Power–KOWEPO Explore Uzbekistan Renewables
Saudi-listed ACWA Power and Korea Western Power (KOWEPO) have signed an MoU to explore renewable energy opportunities in Uzbekistan. The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation across renewable energy, energy storage and related infrastructure projects, with opportunities to be evaluated individually. The companies will combine their respective development experience and local capabilities while also exploring engagement with Korean financial institutions to support potential energy transition investments. The partnership reinforces ACWA Power’s international expansion while giving KOWEPO another platform to strengthen its participation in Uzbekistan’s growing renewable energy market.
NHC–EDF Power Solutions Advance Saudi Sustainable Energy
Saudi Arabia’s National Housing Company (NHC) and EDF Power Solutions have signed an MoU to explore sustainable energy opportunities in the Kingdom. The collaboration reflects the increasing integration of clean energy considerations into Saudi Arabia’s rapidly expanding urban and housing infrastructure. By bringing together NHC’s role in housing development and EDF Power Solutions’ renewable energy expertise, the partnership creates a framework for assessing solutions that can improve sustainability and energy performance. The initiative also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to expand clean energy deployment and advance more sustainable infrastructure under its long-term development strategy.
ACWA Signs 1.5 GW/6 GWh Saudi BESS Agreements
ACWA Power has signed three Storage Services Agreements with the Saudi Power Procurement Company for the Haden, Muwayh and AlKahfah BESS projects, representing a combined 1.5 GW/6 GWh of storage. Each project will provide 500 MW/2,000 MWh, equivalent to four hours of storage at full output, under 15-year agreements. The systems will store electricity during periods of high renewable generation and discharge it when demand rises, supporting grid reliability and greater solar and wind integration. The agreements represent another major expansion of Saudi Arabia’s utility-scale battery storage infrastructure.
Masdar Starts 35 MW/70 MWh Rochdale BESS
Masdar has started commercial operations at its 35 MW/70 MWh Rochdale battery energy storage system in the UK, marking its second operational BESS project in the country. The facility can provide enough electricity for approximately 35,000 homes per day based on two charging and discharging cycles, while also delivering grid-balancing services by responding rapidly to changes in electricity supply and demand. The project forms part of Masdar’s planned £1 billion investment in UK battery storage and its wider 3 GWh development pipeline following the acquisition of Arlington Energy.
Saudi Arabia Signs SAR 4.35 Billion BESS Agreements
Saudi Arabia has signed four major battery energy storage agreements worth approximately SAR 4.35 billion, covering a combined 2,000 MW of storage capacity. The agreements reinforce the Kingdom’s rapid push to build utility-scale battery infrastructure alongside its expanding solar and wind portfolio. Large-scale BESS deployment will play an increasingly important role in managing variable renewable generation, balancing electricity supply and demand, and strengthening overall grid flexibility. The latest agreements add further momentum to Saudi Arabia’s energy transition as storage moves from a supporting technology to a core component of its future electricity system.
