The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Business Centre, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), has convened a high-level industry session at Sri City to promote the adoption of GreenCo and IGBC green rating systems across the state.
The session highlighted the Government of Andhra Pradeshโs policy framework and incentive mechanisms aimed at accelerating sustainable industrial and infrastructure development while aligning economic growth with environmental performance.
Speaking at the event, P. Krishnaiah, Chairman of APPCB, stated that the CII GreenCo rating framework is enabling industries to improve performance across energy efficiency, water management, waste reduction, and circularity. He noted that wider adoption could position Sri City as a model for a green and circular industrial ecosystem.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to integrate sustainability into Andhra Pradeshโs industrial expansion through structured collaboration between APPCB and CII. The framework encourages industries and developers to voluntarily adopt globally benchmarked green standards, supporting the stateโs vision of building a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and globally competitive economy.
Ravindra Sannareddy, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sri City Private Limited, emphasized that industrial ecosystems play a critical role in driving sustainability. He noted that Sri City, already the first industrial park to achieve IGBC Gold rating, could further strengthen its position as a benchmark green industrial hub through wider adoption of GreenCo ratings.
A key feature of the initiative is the introduction of targeted incentives by the Andhra Pradesh government to drive industry participation. Companies achieving GreenCo ratings will be eligible for automatic renewal and a one-year extension of Consent to Operate (CTO), subject to compliance performance, reducing regulatory uncertainty while rewarding sustainable practices.
In addition, GreenCo-rated companies will receive recognition through state-level platforms, improving their brand positioning. The policy also provides preferential consideration for products from such companies in government procurement processes, integrating sustainability into public purchasing. Enhanced visibility through official platforms of APPCB and CII is also being extended to participating industries.
Nihal Kaul, Chairman of the GreenCo South AP Forum, stated that the rating system encourages industries to move beyond compliance and adopt performance-driven sustainability practices, urging wider participation from industries in the region.
The GreenCo rating framework is regarded as one of the most comprehensive systems globally for evaluating industrial environmental performance, covering key areas such as energy, water, waste, and carbon management.
The session concluded with a call for industries and stakeholders to actively participate in the initiative and leverage the stateโs incentive-driven framework. Andhra Pradeshโs integrated approachโcombining regulatory support, financial incentives, and industry collaborationโwas highlighted as a potential model for other states aiming to accelerate the transition toward sustainable and resilient industrial development.
