NTPC Adds 180 MW Solar Capacity At Bhadla And Khavda, Strengthening Renewable Energy Portfolio

NTPC Limited has taken another important step in expanding its renewable energy capacity through its subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL). In a disclosure dated March 28, 2026, the company confirmed the start of commercial operations for two solar power project components in Rajasthan and Gujarat. These projects have been developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a step-down subsidiary of the NTPC Group.

The first development is related to the Bhadla Solar PV Project located in Phalodi, Rajasthan. NTPC declared the commercial operation of the third and final phase of this project, adding 75 MW of capacity. With this addition, the total installed capacity at the Bhadla site has reached 500 MW. The final phase became operational on March 25, 2026, after receiving the required certification from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited.

The second update comes from the Khavda-II Solar PV Project in Gujarat. NTPC has successfully commissioned the fifth phase of this large-scale project, adding another 105 MW to the grid. This unit started operations at midnight on March 29, 2026. The Khavda-II project is planned to have a total capacity of 1,200 MW, making it a key project in NTPC’s renewable energy expansion plans.

With these new additions, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group has increased to 88,889 MW, while its commercial capacity now stands at 87,809 MW. NTPC Green Energy Limited alone has reached an installed capacity of 9,907.68 MW.

The company stated that these developments reflect its continued focus on clean energy and its commitment to increasing renewable power generation in line with regulatory requirements and national energy goals.
