Shri Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan Appointed Chairman and Managing Director of POWERGRID

Shri Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Prior to his elevation, Shri Vamsi served as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID.

An accomplished engineering professional, Shri Vamsi holds a degree in Engineering along with Post Graduate Diplomas in Planning & Project Management and Management from the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram. He has further honed his leadership skills through the Harvard Manage Mentor Program and advanced management courses at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.

With over 33 years of extensive experience in power transmission and telecom sectors, Shri Vamsi has held several key leadership, policy-making, and strategic positions at both regional and corporate levels in POWERGRID. His expertise spans critical areas including Projects, Procurement, Commercial Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Asset Management, and Telecom.

Shri Vamsi was a founding member of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell, contributing significantly to the organization’s regulatory strategy, and played a pivotal role in POWERGRID’s entry into competitive bidding, strengthening its position in the evolving power transmission market. As CEO of POWERGRID Teleservices Limited, he led the expansion of the telecom business and initiated POWERGRID’s first Data Centre project, marking a key milestone in the company’s digital transformation journey.

During his tenure as Director (Projects), POWERGRID recorded its highest-ever capitalisation and CAPEX. A strong advocate of digitalization and mechanization, Shri Vamsi introduced transformational reforms in project monitoring and execution, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and delivery outcomes across large-scale infrastructure projects.

This appointment is expected to drive POWERGRID’s continued growth, innovation, and leadership in India’s power transmission sector.
