Tata Power Company Limited has announced a collaboration with Databricks to build a future-ready data and artificial intelligence platform aimed at accelerating its digital transformation and supporting the energy transition. The move marks a significant step in Tata Power’s strategy to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and drive scalable innovation across its business segments.

The company is adopting the Databricks platform across all its business clusters, including renewable energy, smart grids, and its growing customer-focused portfolio. This unified data platform is expected to enable intelligent grid management, advanced power planning, and better optimization of resources. It will also improve billing and collection efficiency, support accurate renewable energy forecasting, and strengthen operations in solar manufacturing and rooftop solar businesses. At the same time, it aims to provide customers with a seamless and integrated experience.

With this initiative, Tata Power plans to move beyond traditional data systems and fragmented analytics tools by building a modern data foundation that can process large volumes of data and deliver near real-time insights. The platform will integrate data from multiple sources, including operational and enterprise systems, helping eliminate silos and improve coordination across the organization.

A key feature of this transformation is the use of Genie, an AI-powered assistant from Databricks that allows employees to interact with data using natural language. This will enable faster access to insights, help generate analytics and dashboards quickly, and support more informed decision-making across teams.

According to the company, the new platform will also support advanced analytics and AI applications while maintaining strong governance and data security standards. This will play an important role in strengthening Tata Power’s digital capabilities as it continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio and modernize its power distribution systems.

The partnership reflects a broader trend in the energy sector where companies are increasingly relying on data and AI to manage complex systems, improve efficiency, and support sustainability goals. Tata Power stated that it aims to consolidate its enterprise data on a single platform, creating a strong base for future AI-driven initiatives.

In the coming years, the company plans to enable self-service analytics and “talk-to-data” capabilities, making data more accessible across the organization. This approach is expected to democratize the use of data and AI, allowing faster and more insight-driven decisions. The initiative will be supported by Tata Power’s internal Centre of Excellence along with strategic partners, ensuring the successful implementation of its long-term digital vision.
