PM Narendra Modi Highlights Record Solar Capacity Addition in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted India’s milestone achievement of recording its highest-ever annual solar capacity addition, reinforcing the country’s accelerating progress in renewable energy.

Sharing an article on social media, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of the development, referencing insights from Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, who noted that the achievement reflects India’s strong momentum in clean energy deployment.

According to official updates, India added approximately 45 GW of solar capacity during FY 2025–26, marking the highest annual addition in the country’s history. This milestone contributes to India crossing 150 GW of cumulative installed solar capacity, positioning the country among the global leaders in renewable energy expansion.

The surge in solar installations has been driven by large-scale deployments across key states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, alongside continued growth in rooftop solar and distributed energy systems.

The Prime Minister’s acknowledgment reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening energy security, advancing sustainable development, and accelerating the transition toward a low-carbon economy.

India’s renewable energy sector has witnessed rapid expansion in recent years, with solar power emerging as the primary driver of capacity additions and playing a central role in achieving national climate and energy targets.
