Indore has commissioned a 60 MW solar power plant at Jalud, marking a significant step in advancing clean energy adoption and urban sustainability.
Developed by Rays Power Infra Limited, the project spans 220 acres and was executed under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II, Tranche-II of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Solar Energy Corporation of India. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Narendra Modi on December 24, 2023.
With a total investment of ₹271.16 crore, the solar plant was commissioned on March 3, 2026, and is expected to generate over 80 lakh units of electricity per month. The project also includes a 10-year operation and maintenance agreement.
Financially, the project has been supported through green bond funding along with viability gap funding of ₹42 crore from the Government of India. The use of domestically manufactured DCR-category solar PV modules further aligns the initiative with the Make in India mission.
The solar plant is projected to deliver substantial cost savings for the Indore Municipal Corporation, with monthly electricity bill reductions estimated between ₹3 crore and ₹4.2 crore. The project is expected to achieve cost recovery within approximately nine years.
From an environmental perspective, the project is expected to generate around 86,000 carbon credits annually, contributing significantly to emissions reduction—equivalent to the impact of nearly 40 lakh trees.
The solar facility will primarily support the city’s energy-intensive operations, including water supply and pumping systems, reducing reliance on conventional power sources and enhancing service efficiency.
The project was implemented with support from the Government of Madhya Pradesh and key state utilities, reinforcing a collaborative approach to sustainable infrastructure development.
