The Department of Energy Philippines (DOE) has announced that five renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 128.9 MW have commenced operations as of April 17, 2026, marking early progress in its target to bring 25 renewable energy and energy storage projects online by the end of the month.

The newly operational projects include the 20.6 MW Hermosa Solar Power Project by Solana Solar Alpha Inc., the 17.5 MW Taft Solar Power Project by Taft Solar Energy Corporation, the 8 MW Biomass Cogeneration Plant expansion by Central Azucarera de San Antonio, the 52.8 MW Cordon Solar Power Project by Greenergy For Global Inc., and the 30 MW Arayat 3A Solar Power Project by Citicore Solar Pampanga 1 Inc..

These projects form part of a broader pipeline of 25 renewable energy and energy storage developments, with a total targeted capacity of approximately 1,471 MW scheduled for operation by April 2026. The DOE stated that the early commissioning of these projects reflects ongoing efforts to accelerate capacity delivery, enhance grid reliability, strengthen reserve margins, and meet rising electricity demand across the country.

The remaining 20 projects are currently in advanced stages of grid integration and are expected to become operational within the same timeline.

The initiative is aligned with the directive of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to fast-track around 200 power generation projects over the next three years, as outlined in his fourth State of the Nation Address, to ensure sufficient and reliable energy supply nationwide.

To support timely completion, the DOE is coordinating closely with key sector stakeholders, including National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), Energy Regulatory Commission Philippines (ERC), and Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP), to address requirements related to transmission, interconnection, inspection, registration, and metering.

Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla Garin commended developers and government agencies for advancing the projects, noting that bringing additional renewable capacity online is essential to strengthening energy independence, reducing reliance on imported fuels, and building a more resilient and sustainable power system.
