Vietnam-based energy solutions provider SMARTGEN has partnered with POEN to accelerate its residential solar installation business in Vietnam, marking a strategic push into integrated solar and energy storage solutions.
The collaboration strengthens SMARTGEN’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) capabilities in the residential solar segment while establishing a dedicated supply system for residential energy storage systems (ESS) through POEN. The initiative goes beyond a conventional partnership announcement, with on-ground installations already underway.
The official launch of the residential solar business was marked by an installation ceremony, signaling the beginning of large-scale deployment of combined solar and ESS solutions in Vietnam’s residential market.
The move comes amid growing demand in Vietnam for energy cost reduction, improved self-consumption, and enhanced power reliability. While earlier residential solar adoption focused primarily on panel installations, market trends are now shifting toward integrated systems that enable efficient storage and utilization of generated electricity.
SMARTGEN, which specializes in solar EPC, battery energy storage system (BESS) consulting, and broader energy solutions, operates with an execution-focused model covering design, installation, and operational support. The company emphasizes customized system design tailored to specific customer requirements.
POEN, originally incubated within Hyundai Motor Company in 2019 before spinning off in 2020, brings expertise in battery remanufacturing, reuse, and electric vehicle battery development. The company has recently expanded into ESS product lines and gained industry recognition, including an innovation award at CES 2024.
A SMARTGEN representative stated that the partnership will enable the company to move beyond product supply and deliver practical, integrated energy solutions tailored to Vietnam’s residential market. The company also highlighted plans to enhance installation quality and operational efficiency through its EPC expertise while leveraging POEN’s ESS capabilities.
Looking ahead, SMARTGEN and POEN aim to expand deployment of residential solar and ESS installations across Vietnam, positioning themselves to capture growing demand for integrated, reliable, and cost-efficient home energy solutions.
