The North Eastern Region Transmission System (NERTS) of the Power Grid Corporation of India has announced an open tender for installing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at two key substations in Meghalaya. The project will be carried out at Badarpur and Khlerihat, where systems of either 100kW or 100kWh capacity will be installed. This step is aimed at improving grid stability and better energy management in the region, especially as renewable energy use continues to grow.

The tender is being processed through the PRANIT portal, with the RFX number 5002005333. It falls under the โ€œElectrical – Allโ€ category and is classified as a works contract. The total estimated project value is around โ‚น1,00,73,600, showing a strong push toward upgrading power infrastructure in the Northeast.

Companies interested in bidding must follow certain financial requirements. A non-refundable tender fee of โ‚น5,000 is required to access the documents. In addition, bidders must submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of โ‚น2,00,000 to participate. The Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG), which is usually between 3% and 10% of the contract value, will be applicable after the project is awarded. However, bidders are advised to check the detailed tender documents for exact figures.

The tender process started on April 27, 2026, with both document sale and bid submission opening on the same date. The last date to purchase tender documents is May 27, 2026, until 5:30 PM. The final date for submitting bids in soft copy format is June 27, 2026, by 11:00 AM. The bid opening is scheduled for June 3, 2026, at 11:30 AM.

The project is being managed by Solanki Das, Deputy Manager at the Regional Headquarters in Shillong. The process has been designed to ensure transparency and fair competition among bidders.

This initiative highlights the growing importance of battery storage systems in strengthening Indiaโ€™s power network. By adding BESS at strategic points, the grid can handle fluctuations better, store excess energy, and supply power more reliably. It also supports the integration of renewable energy sources, which can be variable in nature.

For electrical and engineering companies, this tender offers a valuable opportunity to be part of an important infrastructure project in Northeast India. Bidders must carefully review all technical and financial conditions before applying through the official e-tender portal.
