EDP Renewables North America has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Meta for electricity generated from the 250 MW Cypress Knee Solar project in Arkansas, further expanding their clean energy partnership in the United States. The agreement marks Metaโs third renewable energy deal with EDP Renewables North America, taking the total contracted clean energy capacity between the two companies to 545 MW.
The Cypress Knee Solar project, planned in Chicot County, Arkansas, is expected to strengthen regional grid capacity by adding new solar generation while supporting Metaโs broader commitment to match 100% of its annual electricity consumption with clean and renewable energy. The project is currently under development and is scheduled for completion by 2028.
Beyond supplying renewable electricity, the project is expected to create meaningful economic and social benefits for the local community. Once operational, Cypress Knee Solar is projected to generate approximately $25 million in new tax revenue for Chicot County over its lifetime, supporting public infrastructure and essential services. The construction phase is also expected to create several hundred jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
EDP Renewables North America has also highlighted its broader community engagement efforts in the region, including investments in education, food security, and local development initiatives. The company has contributed more than $77,000 toward community-based programs in Chicot County, including support for school facilities, robotics education, and food assistance programs.
The latest agreement underscores the growing role of long-term corporate PPAs in accelerating utility-scale solar deployment across the U.S., while enabling large technology companies such as Meta to secure reliable renewable power for their expanding operations and sustainability targets.
