Renewable Energy Integration, Grid Infrastructure on Agenda in Key Ministerial Meeting

India’s renewable energy sector is expected to see fresh policy discussions as Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi is scheduled to meet Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to review key issues affecting the growth of clean energy projects in the country.

The meeting, scheduled for today, is expected to focus on challenges related to renewable power integration, transmission infrastructure, and regulatory mechanisms impacting solar and wind energy developers.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Business Summit in New Delhi, Joshi said several issues aimed at boosting renewable energy deployment would be discussed with the power ministry. Among the topics expected to come up are the Deviation Settlement Mechanism (DSM), transmission connectivity and strengthening of power evacuation systems for renewable energy projects.

Industry stakeholders have been raising concerns over delays in transmission readiness and grid connectivity for upcoming solar and wind projects. Developers believe faster expansion of transmission networks and green energy corridors will be necessary to support India’s rapidly growing renewable energy capacity.

The DSM framework is also likely to be reviewed during the discussions. Renewable energy producers have sought a more balanced approach under the mechanism, which imposes penalties for deviations between scheduled and actual electricity generation. Since renewable energy output depends on weather conditions, the industry has been advocating greater operational flexibility.

The discussions come at a time when India is accelerating efforts to achieve its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. The government has been focusing on expanding solar and wind installations while simultaneously strengthening the national grid and transmission infrastructure to support large-scale renewable energy integration.
