Indraprastha Gas Limited’s decision to tender a 200 MW solar project integrated with battery energy storage in Rajasthan reflects a broader transformation underway in India’s energy sector, where conventional energy companies are increasingly repositioning themselves as diversified clean energy infrastructure players.

The project, which combines 200 MW DC solar generation with a 10 MW/28 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), represents more than a standalone renewable energy investment. It signals the growing market transition toward dispatchable renewable energy infrastructure capable of supporting grid stability, peak demand management, and long-term decarbonisation objectives.

From a strategic standpoint, the inclusion of battery storage is particularly significant. India’s renewable energy sector is entering a phase where energy storage is becoming essential rather than optional, especially as renewable penetration levels continue to rise across national and state grids.
