The Omani state-backed clean energy company O-Green has successfully achieved financial closure for a 93 MW solar power project located in Suhar Industrial City. The development is considered one of the largest solar projects built within industrial areas in the Sultanate of Oman. The achievement was announced during a ceremony attended by Mohsen bin Hamad Al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

The project is being developed in partnership with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, also known as Madayn. It is regarded as the first project in Oman designed specifically to provide direct solar power supply to industrial regions. The initiative aims to support the country’s clean energy transition while helping industries reduce dependence on conventional power sources.

Once operational, the solar plant will provide renewable electricity to more than 200 industrial units operating in Suhar Industrial City. The project is expected to contribute significantly to industrial sustainability efforts and help lower carbon emissions across the region. It also reflects Oman’s broader focus on expanding renewable energy adoption in key economic sectors.

The solar project covers an area of nearly 1.45 million square meters. Construction activities are progressing steadily, with more than 60 percent of the project already completed. Around 150,000 solar panels have been installed across different stages of the development so far. According to the company, commercial operations are expected to begin in September this year.

O-Green stated that securing financial closure with Ahli Islamic Bank is an important milestone for the project. The agreement demonstrates the increasing importance of sustainable financing in supporting renewable energy expansion and strengthening Oman’s clean energy infrastructure. The financing arrangement is expected to support the timely completion and operation of the project.

In addition to the Suhar solar project, O-Green also signed an agreement with the Arab Open University to establish a dedicated solar power plant on the university campus. The agreement was signed by the president of the university and the chief executive officer of O-Green.
