Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ACME Solar Holdings Limited for a 300 MW/1,200 MWh assured peak power project under its Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) Tranche-VII scheme.
The project, to be developed through ACME Solar’s subsidiary ACME Renewtech Sixth Private Limited, is designed to supply four hours of assured peak electricity during non-solar hours while maintaining a minimum annual availability of 85%.
The agreement marks another step in India’s transition toward dispatchable renewable energy solutions integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS), as policymakers increasingly focus on grid reliability and peak demand management alongside renewable energy expansion.
The project will be connected through the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) network and is expected to leverage existing night-time transmission connectivity in high solar irradiation regions, helping optimize transmission infrastructure utilization.
According to the company, the project was secured through SECI’s tariff-based competitive bidding and e-reverse auction process at a tariff of ₹6.28 per unit. Commercial power supply is expected to commence by May 2028.
The 1,200 MWh storage component associated with the project highlights the growing role of battery storage in enabling renewable energy supply during evening and night-time demand periods when solar generation declines.
Industry observers note that India’s renewable energy market is increasingly shifting from conventional standalone solar projects toward hybrid and FDRE models capable of delivering reliable, round-the-clock clean power.
With this agreement, ACME Solar’s total contracted renewable energy portfolio has expanded to over 8 GW across solar, wind, hybrid, FDRE, and storage-based projects. The company currently has nearly 3 GW of operational capacity and over 5 GW under various stages of construction and development.
The latest project also aligns with the Indian government’s broader strategy of accelerating utility-scale battery storage deployment and enhancing renewable energy integration into the national grid.
