The Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC) has invited comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the public on its Draft State Grid Code Regulations, 2026. The public notice was issued on June 9, 2026, by order of the Commission and was signed by its Secretary, E. Slong.

The move comes as part of an effort to align Meghalayaโ€™s power sector regulations with the latest national framework governing electricity grid operations. The existing Meghalaya State Grid Code was originally notified on April 27, 2012, based on the provisions of the Indian Electricity Grid Code that was in force at the time.

However, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) notified the updated Indian Electricity Grid Code Regulations on May 29, 2023. Under Section 86 of the Electricity Act, 2003, State Electricity Regulatory Commissions are required to ensure that their respective grid codes remain consistent with the regulations issued by the central regulator. In response to this requirement, MSERC has prepared the Draft State Grid Code Regulations, 2026, using its statutory powers under the Electricity Act.

The proposed regulations will be applicable to the State Transmission Utility, the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC), and all users connected to the state transmission system. The draft regulations are available for public review on the official website of the Commission.

MSERC has encouraged all interested stakeholders to participate in the consultation process by submitting their comments, objections, and suggestions. The Commission has specified that responses must be submitted in a structured format, including details such as the relevant regulation number, the draft provision, and the stakeholderโ€™s comments.

Feedback can be submitted either in person to the Secretary of MSERC at the New Administrative Building in Shillong or through email. The deadline for submitting comments and suggestions is June 29, 2026. The Commission has clarified that submissions received after the specified date will not be considered.
