Entergy Mississippi is undertaking the largest infrastructure investment program in its more than 100-year history as it responds to rising electricity demand driven by significant economic growth across the state. The company is expanding power generation capacity, strengthening its electricity grid, and modernizing critical infrastructure while aiming to keep electricity rates among the lowest in the United States.
Across the country, electric utilities are expected to invest up to $1.4 trillion over the next six years to modernize and reinforce power systems. In Mississippi, Entergy has launched an ambitious initiative called Superpower Mississippi, designed to improve grid reliability, reduce outages, and support long-term economic development.
Introduced in 2025, the Superpower Mississippi program includes an additional $300 million investment focused on enhancing grid performance through stronger infrastructure materials, expanded tree-trimming efforts, and technology-driven upgrades to the electricity distribution network.
These improvements are intended to reduce service interruptions and improve reliability for customers throughout the state. The additional investment has been made possible in part by major economic development projects, including large-scale investments from companies such as Amazon and Avaio. Together, their data center projects are expected to contribute more than $30 billion to Mississippiโs economy.
Amazonโs projects alone are projected to create at least 2,000 direct jobs, with average salaries exceeding the state average.Combined with approximately $600 million already allocated through existing grid modernization plans, Entergy Mississippi expects to invest nearly $1 billion in grid improvements over the next five years.
According to the company, these investments are expected to deliver a 50% reduction in power outages while maintaining customer rates significantly below the national average. Entergy says it can increase reliability investments by 50% without adding extra costs to customers. Alongside grid modernization efforts, the company is also working to expand and modernize its power generation fleet.
Several existing power plants have served Mississippi customers for more than five decades and have played a major role in providing affordable electricity. However, many of these facilities are approaching the end of their operational lifespans and will be replaced with newer, more efficient technologies
.To meet future electricity demand, Entergy Mississippi plans to build three new combined-cycle combustion turbine natural gas power plants. Together, these projects represent approximately $3.5 billion in infrastructure investment and will provide around 2,100 megawatts of new generation capacity.
The first of these projects, the Delta Blues Advanced Power Station in Greenville, is expected to enter service in May 2028 and will replace the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station. A second facility, the Vicksburg Advanced Power Station, will be constructed at the site of the existing Baxter Wilson Steam Electric Station and is expected to become operational in August 2028.
The third project, the Traceview Advanced Power Station in Ridgeland, is scheduled to begin operations in August 2029.In addition to new generation facilities, Entergy Mississippi is constructing or expanding seven customer-dedicated substations to support large industrial developments.
The company is also developing three additional substations that will strengthen transmission and power generation infrastructure throughout its service territory.Haley Fisackerly, President and Chief Executive Officer of Entergy Mississippi, said the scale of economic growth taking place in the state requires long-term planning and significant infrastructure investments.
He noted that serving future demand involves preparing ahead of time rather than simply responding to growth as it occurs. The company believes that completing these projects now will not only help meet the needs of existing customers but also strengthen Mississippiโs ability to attract additional investment from major companies seeking reliable and affordable electricity for future operations.
Entergy Mississippi also emphasized that careful planning has helped control project costs. By accelerating the replacement of aging generation facilities, the company has been able to secure equipment before global supply chain pressures drive prices higher. This strategy is expected to save approximately $1.3 billion in material and equipment costs for the new power plants compared with building them on the original timeline.
In addition, the advanced generation technologies being deployed are expected to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, resulting in an estimated $700 million in future fuel cost savings. These efficiencies are intended to help balance the need for infrastructure investment with the companyโs commitment to maintaining affordable electricity rates.
Through the Superpower Mississippi initiative, Entergy Mississippi is positioning itself to support the stateโs continued economic expansion while delivering a more reliable, resilient, and modern energy system.
The combination of grid upgrades, new power generation facilities, and expanded transmission infrastructure is expected to strengthen the stateโs energy future and ensure that businesses, industries, and communities have access to dependable electricity for decades to come.
