Masdar to Acquire 49.99% Stake in Repsol’s 705 MW Renewable Energy Portfolio in Spain

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Repsol have signed an agreement under which Masdar will acquire a 49.99% stake in a 705 MW renewable energy portfolio in Spain. The transaction values the portfolio at €849 million and is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

The portfolio comprises 13 operational wind farms with a combined capacity of 402 MW and six photovoltaic solar parks totaling 303 MW. All assets entered operation during 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. In addition, the portfolio includes a potential hybridisation pipeline exceeding 565 MW, incorporating wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects.

The deal forms part of Repsol’s strategy to optimize its renewable energy business through partnerships and asset rotation while supporting future growth. Upon completion of the transaction, Masdar’s operational renewable energy capacity in the Iberian Peninsula is expected to reach 4.1 GW, with around 1 GW currently under development. Repsol currently operates 6 GW of renewable energy capacity and has completed eight renewable asset rotation transactions totaling 3,850 MW across Spain and the United States.
