China Commissions Largest Integrated Solar-Hydrogen-Storage Project In Jiangsu Province

China has marked a significant achievement in its clean energy transition with the completion of the Rudong Integrated Solar-Hydrogen-Storage Project in Jiangsu Province. The project, located at Yangkou Port in eastern China, was officially completed on June 10, 2026, and is now recognized as the country’s largest integrated solar, hydrogen, and energy storage facility.

Developed by CHN Energy, the project combines solar power generation, energy storage, grid integration, and green hydrogen production into a single coordinated system. The facility has been designed to create a seamless connection between renewable energy generation and its practical use, helping improve energy efficiency while supporting China’s carbon reduction goals.

The project forms part of China’s third batch of large-scale solar base developments. It consists of three major components that work together to maximize the use of renewable energy. The first is a 400-megawatt solar power plant that serves as the primary source of electricity generation. The second component is a 60-megawatt/120-megawatt-hour energy storage station, which helps balance fluctuations in solar power generation and improves grid stability. The third element is a green hydrogen production facility capable of producing 1,500 standard cubic meters of hydrogen per hour.

According to project estimates, the solar power plant will generate approximately 468 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This amount of renewable electricity is sufficient to meet the yearly power needs of around 200,000 households. In addition, the clean energy generated by the facility is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300,000 tons every year, contributing significantly to environmental protection efforts.

A key feature of the project is its ability to convert renewable electricity directly into green hydrogen. Using solar-generated power, the hydrogen production plant can produce around 482 tons of green hydrogen annually. This clean fuel will be supplied to industries and users across the Yangtze River Delta region, one of China’s most important economic zones.

To support hydrogen utilization, a hydrogen refueling station has already been commissioned at the site. This infrastructure will help expand the use of hydrogen-powered transportation and other clean energy applications in the region.

CHN Energy confirmed that the project has successfully completed full-system joint testing and that all major performance indicators have met the planned design requirements. The company intends to further optimize the integrated model by using solar power as the primary energy source, hydrogen as the connecting link, and energy storage as a stabilizing mechanism.

The Rudong Integrated Solar-Hydrogen-Storage Project is expected to serve as an important demonstration project for China’s future energy development. It showcases how renewable energy, storage technologies, and hydrogen production can work together to build a cleaner, more reliable, and sustainable energy system.
