Valu, a leading fintech company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), has secured a EGP 600 million (approximately €10.7 million) loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support Egypt’s transition toward a greener economy.
The financing will enable Valu to expand access to energy-efficient appliances, solar solutions, and other green technologies through flexible consumer financing options. The initiative is aimed at helping households reduce energy costs while increasing adoption of sustainable products through Valu’s digital platform and merchant network.
According to the company, the facility will also support the development of dedicated green finance products, improved tracking of eligible sustainable investments, and the creation of a broader pipeline of green assets within the retail financing segment. The program is designed to extend climate-focused investment beyond corporates to individual consumers, supporting wider participation in Egypt’s green transition.
Karim Riad, Chief Financial Officer of Valu, said the partnership reflects strong confidence from the EBRD in the company’s ability to scale accessible green financing solutions. He added that the initiative reinforces Valu’s commitment to building a diversified funding base while enabling consumers to adopt more sustainable purchasing decisions.
The EBRD, which has invested more than €14.6 billion across over 225 projects in Egypt since 2012, highlighted the role of consumer finance in accelerating low-carbon economic development. The bank’s support for Valu underscores its focus on expanding climate-related investments at the household level.
Valu, legally known as U Consumer Finance S.A.E. and listed on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), offers a wide range of financial services, including buy-now-pay-later solutions, investment products, and business financing services. The company recently expanded its operations into Jordan in 2026 following regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Jordan.
