Nama Power and Water Procurement (Nama PWP) has invited qualified and experienced companies to participate in the development of two large-scale solar Independent Power Projects (IPPs) in Oman. The projects, planned in the Wilayat Adam and Wilayat Sinaw regions, are part of the country’s ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy generation and support sustainable development goals.

The larger of the two projects, the Adam Solar IPP, will have a total generation capacity of 1,000 MW. The project will use solar photovoltaic (PV) technology along with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), making it one of the advanced renewable energy projects planned in the country. The project site will cover an area of more than 20.5 million square meters.

According to project details, the Adam Solar IPP is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1.03 million tons annually. It will also generate around one million International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs) each year. The estimated investment for the project is approximately 287 million Omani Rials, equivalent to about USD 746 million.

The second project, known as the Sinaw Solar IPP, will have a capacity of 500 MW. It will utilize solar silicon photovoltaic technology and will be developed on a land area of approximately 5 million square meters. The project is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 566,612 tons annually and produce 500,000 IRECs every year.

The estimated cost of the Sinaw Solar IPP stands at about 111 million Omani Rials, or nearly USD 288 million. Together, the two projects will add significant renewable energy capacity to Oman’s power sector while contributing to the country’s environmental and climate objectives.

Nama PWP has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for interested companies and investors. Through this process, the organization aims to identify capable developers who can deliver the projects according to high technical, operational, and environmental standards.

The launch of these qualification processes highlights Oman’s commitment to increasing the share of clean energy in its electricity mix. By encouraging participation from both international and local companies, the country aims to attract expertise and investment into its growing renewable energy sector.
